Found in Fraser Canyon, quite a few miles
east of Vancouver, Hell's Gate Airtram allows visitors to see one of
the truly breathtaking natural wonders in the area. Less then two
hours by car, Hell's Gate Airtram is in a location that was recorded
as far back as 1808, when Simon Fraser wrote about the gorge in the
diary of his explorations in the area. Many years later, in 1969,
plans were made to open up Hell's Gate Airtram. It took a lot of money
and a couple of years, but the tram was opened to the public and
became a success, transporting over 150,000 passengers the first year.
Beyond taking the tram to see the chaotic power of the gorge in all
its natural glory or walking across the suspension bridge, there are a
lot of other things to do at Hell's Gate Airtram, making it a great
all day excursion if you're going to be in the Vancouver area and want
to get away from the big city for a bit to take in some of the amazing
beauty of Canada's landscape.
From a fudge shop to gift shops to a cafe to various platforms to see
the gorge and watch the river from, Hell's Gate Airtram is about more
than just the tram. The tram ride can be quite an experience, though,
getting you super close to the raging river below. The suspension
bridge is also exhilarating for those who want to get even closer to
the action and excitement that surrounds Fraser Canyon. |
